Experience painless dental services with sedation dentistry and a gentle touch
Dental phobias and fears are a very real and stressful part of receiving dental care for many people. In fact, millions of people worldwide fail to receive the dental care that they need every year because dental anxieties are holding them back. At the dental practice of Dr. Titania Tong in Central, Hong Kong, we use a combination of sedation dentistry, a gentle touch, modern dental techniques, and compassion to provide patients with painless dental services and a relaxing experience.

Sedation dentistry

The term “sedation dentistry” encompasses a wide range of options available in modern dentistry to help keep patients relaxed and free from anxiety while they receive their dental care.
  • The most common form of sedation dentistry is oral sedation, which involves taking a prescribed pill both the night before and the morning of dental treatment. The pill is an oral sedative that helps ease anxiety and reduce your body’s response to external stimuli while you are receiving dental care. While the medication helps you stay calm and relaxed, you are still awake, so you are able to respond to questions and follow instructions while you are receiving your treatment. Some people become so relaxed that they fall asleep, which is completely fine too! Our primary concern is that you are able to receive the dental care that you need.
  • Intravenous (IV) sedation can also be used in cases of extreme dental anxiety or when more complex procedures will be performed. An anesthetist administers the sedative through an IV and continuously monitors the patient while receiving their dental care. After the treatment is over, the patient has no memory of their dental procedure.
In both cases, you will need a trusted friend or family member to drive you to and from your dental appointment because the sedatives take some time to wear off.

Compassionate care with a gentle touch

In addition to sedation dentistry, an important component of pain and anxiety-free dental care is working with a dentist who provides compassionate, gentle care. Dr. Titania Tong takes the time to listen to your concerns and give you as much information about your treatment plan as you need to feel comfortable with moving forward with receiving dental care. Modern dental anesthetics and techniques also help keep you pain-free during your treatment and ease your recovery.
