Have known Steve & Ember for a very long time including previous shop in Wilmington NC. Steve is a very talented artist with exceptional eye for detail and balance in all of his work. Their shop is top notch and the atmosphere relaxed and welcoming, no job is too big or to small. I love Mad Ethel’s and won’t go anywhere else! I just got my first large tattoo there by Steve and had such a great experience. Everyone was friendly and professional, the environment was relaxed and fun, and the tattoo itself came out beyond my highest expectations. I couldn’t be happier with it.

Steve does all my art. But Mad Ethel’s is the only shop in town where I would let any of the artists work on me without hesitation. Highest quality work around in the cleanest and most comfortable shop you’ll find. A true gem in Raleigh.

I had a new, large, upper arm tattoo done a few weeks ago. The studio is cool and laid back and the people are friendly. The tattoo took a long time, but I had been prepared ahead of time and my expectation was right on. Cliff did a great job and I enjoyed his stories as he worked. I have received TONS of compliments. I went in to have my septum pierced by Lily. She was attentive and explained everything clearly. My first contact was via social media. The were positive and super helpful. I have been to a lot of places here in NC but will always go back to Mad Ethel’s. Super clean and super helpful. They are indeed, the only place I would go to get poked. <3

I’ve been going to mad Ethel’s for a few years now. Nothing has changed , and I’m glad it hasn’t. It’s a very laid back , feel at home kind of shop. From the people that answer the phone , to the artists , all around are very personable and enjoy the work they do. I found my shop and have no need to go anywhere else!!

Both my husband and I have gotten tattoos and piercings at Mad Ethel’s. The artists are awesome. They give you professional, honest feedback on what will/won’t work for your chosen piece of art. They also follow-up afterwards which we’ve never experienced with any other shop. It’s a bit of a wait but well worth it.

After 15 years of thinking about it, I researched the area tattoo businesses and Mad Ethel’s won because they seemed to be very professional, conscientious, and extremely talented. They exceeded every expectation! It took 3 visits to finish the work of art and I couldn’t be happier! I gave artistic freedom to Chris and he created true art that captured everything important to me. Everyone at Mad Ethel’s is friendly, professional, talented, and fun. I wouldn’t think of going anywhere else. My next work of body art is already scheduled at Mad Ethel’s.

Not only has Steve put 6 Beautiful black and grey pieces on me in the last 2 years, but Madd Ethels was able to fulfill my Mother-in-laws bucket list item of a tatoo before she unexpectedly passed away 2 months ago. So in true bad ass fashion my wife contacted the shop and had a memorial piece exactly like her moms put on her foot. At this point we are so in love with this small business words can’t possibly describe how much we love the shop. They deserve every bit of their success.

I have two beautiful half sleeves done by Steve (the owner) that I get compliments on constantly. Steve was understanding about how to incorporate my style into the pieces, and is an incredibly talented artist. The entire staff is extremely talented, friendly, and professional, and made me feel comfortable and relaxed throughout many hours of tattooing. The shop is clean and inviting to every type of person who might want a tattoo, helping to change the perception of tattoos from taboo to pieces of art.

I got a daith piercing done here a little over two weeks ago to help with migraines. My only regret was that I didn’t do it earlier. It is healing a lot faster than I thought and it’s all due to the amazing piercer, Ms. Lilly. Could not have made a better choice than going here, will definitely be back in the future! The attention to detail and professionalism is by far superior. Super hygienic as well. Love this place!

Where do I start, everyone that works in the shop is amazing! They get you an appointment as soon as possible. The vibes in the shop are so cool. Good music and great conversation! The first time I went to Mad Ethel’s was on a whim with my sisnlaw. We got matching tattoos done by Ember. She gave us advice on coloring and placement. I love it and came back last December for a second time. I live 2 hours away in Wilmington and made a special trip to get it done.This time I got a dragon from The Hobbit book. Ember matched size and placement so it was in line with the other tattoo she did on my other arm. I love this place and the people. I’d recommend to anyone and will continue to make the drive to get work done here.

I got 2 tattoos from Mad Ethel’s. They are super friendly and really work with you to make sure you get the design you want. (It is a big decision!) They are very clean and professional as well. I would recommend them to anyone!
